Thich Nhat Hanh and Cultivating True Love
I recently finished “You Are Here – Discovering the Magic of the Present Moment”. This is definitely a book I will need to re-read a few times before I truly can absorb the content. I particularly enjoyed the chapter on Cultivating True Love. Thich Nhat Hanh discusses how the practice of mindfulness will help us to love properly, in such a way that harmony, freedom, and joy are possible. There are four mantras discussed:
- “Dear one, I am here for you.”
- “Dear one, I know you are here, alive, and that makes me very happy.”
- “Dear one, I know you are suffering. That’s why I am here for you.”
- “Dear one, I am suffering. I need your help.”
The fourth mantra is potentially the most difficult to put into practice because of our pride. Check out this story and see how silly pride can be and how our pride can be impacted by false perceptions also discussed at length in the chapter.
